-> tattoos as a way to protest against mink, an important point in my research project
Research Proposal Topic: Body Modification-Tattoos Introduction: For ages I wanted to get a Tattoo, despite the fact my mother is going to be very upset. I already know where I would like to get inked. Even though, there are some issues that make me struggle about this final decision, to brighten up my body, because it is forever and I should really make up my mind, if I would feel confident with my design in 50 years. So I have come to the conclusion, for my Research Project topic to focus on tattoos, having in my mind, that my decision could upset my fairly conservative family. It is also fascinating, why does our society react so negatively to Tattoos? I think it is a really interesting, how different people respond on this particular Body modification, and I just want to know why, and what reasons do people have, to get, or not get a Tattoo. Of course it is painful to get inked, but I heard friends talking, telling me that you can get addicted to tattoos and this pain.
Who invented Tattoos? What was the technique and the purpose? To get more background knowledge I have to undertake some research on the internet, read the books, I borrowed from the school library and interview a few people.
Whilest researching I have to choose two Capabilities, one of them is going to be learning, for the reason that I am going to learn much, during my research and the second Capability is going to be Communication, because I am going to focus to get the most information through talking and surveying people.
Firstly I am going to organize an appointment at a beauty-saloon, to arrange to interview a permanent make up artist, because permanent make up is a kind of Tattoo, even though it is a more tolerated form, and sometimes people even do not recognize it. This beauty procedure is also prohibited for anyone under 18 years of age, like “normal” Tattoos, but is being 18 really enough, to get a Tattoo? After all, it is going to last forever and that is a serious decision. Afterwards I would like to survey friends and strangers (I need to ask as many different people, from every age group), to get to know, how our society react to Tattoos. I am also thinking of creating a group on Facebook, on which I would upload a questionnaire as that would save a lot of paperwork and trees as well. Lastly I will arrange an appointment with a professional Tattooist. This is going to be my most important and final part of my research project, and I may film this conversation with the Tattooist, and any other dialogue I have with other groups. Finally I will do a power point presentation, which will help me to follow the arrangement of my folio sheets and keep on track and structured.
4 Questions:
1. Why do people get a tattoo? (=>History: rituals, religious meanings, permanent make up, express their self, youth rebellion, to look “cool”, gang-members, Sport-celebration etc.)
2. What are the health issues of getting tattooed?
3. Why do people get rid of a tattoo?
4. How do people think about such body modifications nowadays? (Is it a disadvantage to have a tattoo?)
-> sport tattoos
